Dr. Margot O'Donnell offers integrated psychiatric services for older adolescents and adults in the Philadelphia area. She provides psychotherapy specially designed for the individual patient's needs along with evidence-based medication management. 

Dr. O'Donnell treats the full range of psychiatric disorders with special interest and expertise in young adult development, drug and alcohol issues and women's health.

Margot O’Donnell, MD

Dr. O’Donnell is an ABPN Board Certified psychiatrist in private practice in the Greater Philadelphia area.

Dr. O’Donnell graduated from Villanova University Summa Cum Laude 2002. She received her medical degree from Jefferson Medical College at Thomas Jefferson University, AOA and Cum Laude 2006 and completed her psychiatry residency at the University of Pennsylvania, where she served as chief resident 2009-2010.

Dr. O’Donnell is committed to treating suffering throughout the life cycle with special attention to the role of positive psychology and holistic interventions. She uses the lowest dose of medications targeted to symptom management and quality of life.  She utilizes therapeutic interventions from evidence based programs like DBT and ACT.  She works collaboratively with patients, including college students, people struggling with addiction and women facing transitions like pregnancy and parenting.  

Dr. O’Donnell has extensive experience in teaching and training. Additionally, she holds specialized certifications in the treatment of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) from the Center for Treatment and Study of Anxiety at the University of Pennsylvania.

The office is conveniently located in Bryn Mawr, a Main Line suburb outside of Philadelphia. For telehealth, Dr. O’Donnell offers HIPAA secure teletherapy hosted on VSee.

  • Psychotherapy

    Dr. O'Donnell practices several types of psychotherapy, including psychodynamic, behavioral and cognitive therapies. She will collaborate with each individual to design an approach that meets his or her therapeutic goals. Regardless of the modality, Dr. O'Donnell will always provide a safe and empathetic environment where individuals feel supported exploring themselves.

  • Medication Management

    In many cases, psychiatric medications are helpful in relieving symptoms and improving functioning. Dr. O'Donnell has training in the most up-to-date evidence-based prescribing practices. She has experience treating individuals with multiple psychiatric disorders including primary and co-occurring substance dependence.

    Dr.O'Donnell most commonly combines psychiatric medications with psychotherapy. However, she will see patients for just medications. For those working with another psychotherapist, she will collaborate closely with all providers.

  • Consultation and Assessment

    A comprehensive psychiatric assessment is necessary to best understand current concerns, make an initial diagnosis and formulate a treatment plan. The first appointment will usually last longer than subsequent visits and may include discussions of active symptoms, past experiences and medical and psychiatric history. Consultation with family, significant other and treating therapists or physicians may be helpful.

  • Supervision and Speaking

    Dr O’Donnell has special interests in nutritional psychiatry, mindfulness, parenting and yoga in mental health. She provides regular professional supervision and clinical teaching on these topics in a variety of settings. Frequently Asked Questions

Insurance 

Dr. O'Donnell does not accept insurance. She will, however, provide invoices so that you may be reimbursed for a percentage of your treatment if your insurance plan covers "out of network" expenses. Payment is due at time of service via credit card or Zelle, available through your banking app.

Good Faith Estimate

You have the right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate" explaining how much your medical care will cost. Under a law that began in January 2022, health care providers need to give patients who don’t have insurance or who are not using insurance an estimate of the bill for medical items and services.
